About Wellesley's Spring Hoops (formerly Town Ball)
The Wellesley Spring Hoops basketball program (formerly known as "Town Ball") offers an opportunity to kids of all experience levels to join a team for a short five week season at the end of the CYO and MetroWest seasons. Teams are selected with the objective to balance skill levels so that there is an even distribution of ability across the teams in each age group. The general philosophy of the Spring Hoops program is that the experience should be fun and instructional with some natural competition. Every player should get equal playing time. We do not monitor wins or losses nor do we keep track of points for the teams or any individual players. Spring Hoops provides an opportunity for kids to participate in a structured and low-competitive basketball program with their friends and classmates. In addition, HS students have the opportunity to coach a team or referee games.
Practices: Each team has one 1-hour long weeknight practice at one of the Wellesley schools between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., with the specific days and times to be assigned after teams are formed. Practices begin the week of March 5th.
Games: The first games of the season will be played on SUNDAY, March 11th (to accommodate Wellesley CYO Hoops playoff championships). The other 4 games are played on Saturdays from March 17th to April 7th (between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m) at various Wellesley schools.
